The ER70S2 welding wire is triple deoxidized which is mostly suitable for welding metal like carbon steel plus carbon-manganese steels. They make an excellent choice for sheet metal welding, light industrial repairing, small pipe welding, etc.

Composition

These welding wires consist of zirconium, titanium, silicon, aluminum plus manganese. Due to their substance, they are suitable for MIG and TIG welding.

Tensile strength

The ER70S2 wire has a tensile strength of 78,000 psi and yield strength of 60,000 psi. Which is a bit lower than the ER70S6 wires.

Welding position

You will be able to use the ER70S6 welding wire to use from all positions. However, these welding wires are not a good choice for working on metal which is dirty and has rust on the surface layer.

ER70S6 Welding Wire

ER70S6 is commonly used for general purpose welding of mild steel, including automotive body panels, farm equipment, light pipe welding, and general fabrication. You can use the ER70S6 welding wire for TIG and MIG welding.

It is an all-purpose welding wire that can be used on a variety of metals, including carbon steel, low alloy steel, and stainless steel.

Welding position

You will find this wire ideal for welding in all positions, including vertical and overhead. It has a low spatter level and is easy to remove.

Composition

ER70S6 is a low carbon, high manganese steel with a silicon content. The high manganese and silicon levels make this wire suitable for welding over moderate levels of rust and scale.

Because of its high silicon content, ER70S6 is commonly referred to as a filler wire. As a result, during arc welding, oxides can rise to the surface. It primarily uses Argon plus Carbon II oxide for shielding gases in ratios of 75 and 25, each.

Tensile strength & price

This wire provides excellent weldability while maintaining high levels of strength and ductility. Plus, it has a tensile strength of 80,000 psi and yield strength of 65,000 psi. However, one of the downsides of the ER70S6 is it is a bit costly compared to other welding wires.

Also, this welding wire promotes greater puddle fluidity as well as outstanding wetting action, delivering more aesthetically appealing welding practices.

Though the price tag of ER70S6 is more than the ER70S2 welding wire that comes with few advantages too. When it comes to tensile strength and yield strength, the ER70S6 can produce a bit high-quality weld.

And it has the capability to do welding on the contaminated metal bases and rusty metal due to the higher penetration.

So when it comes to ER70S2 vs ER70S6 welding wire, I would say the ER70S6 is the better one.
